The views of regional, rural and remote Australians experiencing connectivity issues have been heard loud and clear, with a record-breaking number of submissions received by the 2024 Regional Telecommunications Independent Review Committee.

The Review – held once every 3 years – plays a key role in reducing the digital divide between cities and regional Australia, with feedback received from the public as part of previous Reviews leading to policy initiatives and programs for regional telecommunications.

All non-confidential submissions have been published online and community feedback will be prioritised by the Committee as it finalises its recommendations to the Australian Government on how to improve telecommunications services in regional and rural communities.

The Terms of Reference for the Review set out that the Committee should have regard to a number of issues including the impact of changing and emerging technologies, needs in First Nations communities and the suitability of regional communications during emergencies and natural disasters.

The Committee will deliver its report to the Australian Government by 31 December 2024.
